Digital marketing is the use of today’s “internet connected devices” to engage, convey and promote ideas, product and services in a dynamic, convenient and personalized approach.

There are two main approaches to digital marketing. “Pull” and “Push”, each with it’s own benefits and pitfalls. Determining the best approach can be the difference between a successful campaign or one deemed as SPAM.

Push campaigns deliver information in many ways, often without the need for consent that often lead to the label of SPAM. Push technology can send out updated information as it happens ensuring that your message, content or product information is always accurate. In a controlled push environment where consent has been given and audience profiles are available, updates specific to consumer demographics or a targeted audience can be pushed. This is by far the best approach top take but the costs increase.

Pull campaigns require the audience to seek out information and to pull the information or consent to receive the information via a website, email or text message. Ensuring the content is relevant and search engine optimized is imperative in order to ensure the information is easily located and retrieved. The costs are lower, but so are the rewards.
